E 111 TRAVEL CARD FOR EX PATS
As most of us know in the past when we have travelled outside the UK with an E111 for emergency treatment in case of accident etc...We have been Spanish residents and paid into the system for a full 9 years, also and worked in agriculture legally and paid taxes when deducted...As a family we have had Spanish E111 type travel cards in case of accident etc...I went to the office in Baza for renewal and the geezer behind the desk informs me that agriculture workers are not entitled to a card now because of lower National insurance contribution and if we were to travel outside Spain we needed to go to the office 2 or 3 days before we travel and get a document to cover us for 90 days....We,re not looking for the British over the bar information with the more you drink the more you make up,but is there any agriculture workers in the Altiplano that have had the same problem...or does anyone know of a way over the problem ....Seems a bit petty when all can obtain a card when living in the UK whatever your employment...thank you

Jack
See below re E111, which isn't very helpful I know.
Residents in Spain
Since 1st May 2010, the UK is responsible for issuing the EHIC to UK pensioners resident in other EU countries and to be used on a temporary stay in the UK and a third EU country. For further information on this change visit the NHS website.
If you are resident in Spain and not covered by the UK for healthcare, you must apply for your EHIC through the INSS (Spanish social security office). More information can also be found on the website of the European Commission.
The is a lot of info on the British Embasy Website but it doesn't go into detail about how the Spanish system works.
I wouldn't take it as 'gospel ' what the Spanish authorities have told you. They may be right, but until you have explored it further I wouldn't give up. The INSS has quite a good website, I would get someone to check that first. Also it might be worth a telephone call to the British Consulate in Alicante where they have a Healthcare team based, they may be able to clarify the situation for you. Good Luck.

Re: E 111 TRAVEL CARD FOR EX PATS
Sorry Ken...I,ve sent out a mixed message....Working in the Spanish system we have all the health care that we need as a family( same as Spaniards) and pension in the Spanish system if i live long enough...
What i mean is most countries issue E111 type cards which we have had up until now for Holiday insurance and visiting family etc etc( emergency treatment card) but our is not renewable because in Spain because i work in agriculture...they will give us cover as normal but got to go to office each time we travel....seems stupid and need to know if we have been led up the garden path or is there any other agricutural workers out there or on the forum with same issue...I dont mind if anyone wants to PM me on this....thanks Ken and sorry to waste your time
