Fire in Cantarranas Empty Fire in Cantarranas

Post by Ponderosa Fri Feb 24, 2012 7:56 pm

We came home after shopping to day and found the area on fire too much to deal with Twisted Fire Starter fire extinguishers with, so I think we were one of many that called the Bomberos . It was too big for me to deal with alone. Our Fire alarm was sounding in the house. We had the Guarda cavil, Police, two fire engines, Caniles council men our next door neighbour, a plumber and two photographers plus four young men in a white car we did not know who they were but they pushed off pretty quickly. Every were including us smells of smoke

Very scarey, glad they got it under control quickly. Must admit from what I have seen they know what to do when it comes to fires around here. Even more reason we need some rain though we shouldn't worried about these sort of fires this time of year.

Noticed it from my kitchen window and then went out and took this picture from my gates. It seemed to be burning for ages - glad you are OK!

Thank you “Mariposa” the fire is still burning but the main fire went on for about four hours. From what “Twisted Fire Starter” says it would sound as if he supports what I was saying (get out of a building) i.e. not body bags.
I must say I moved the car to a safer placed because the metal door on the garage was sending the air in the garage up to an unacceptable temperature level I was afraid for the car petrol tank, I came back to a small fire in the wood store which I put out with the ad of the garden hose then hosed down the gas casita which has a small metal door, now the Bombers had arrived so I left it all to them and retired to a safer distance.

We are looking for people to give us quotations for repairs to our garden i.e. fencing, Replacing with new trees (Approx. 4 meters tall and some smaller bushes. Refurbish our swimming pool) these quotes are for the insurance company and Guardia Cavil.

The support we have had from all the authorities have been 120%. The stories we hear about the Guardia Cavil were never good. But we think they were fantastic they attended the fire helpful and sympathetic, 5.30pm the next day they came to the house and asked us to come to their office where they told us our rights and told us to calm for the smoke smell in our cloths and the car, made out a report about the fire, gave us a hard copies of the report and sent copies to my e-mail address so I could translate them on Google Translator.

The fire brigade arrived very quickly and who am I to judge them but they did the job perfectly to my book. One of the fire men asked my wife if he could have some water my wife pointed to the pool and told there was water. He then made the action of to drink water so we were having a laugh while we got bottled water and glasses. Bought a bit of fun to the whole situation.

Yesterday we went our bank which we have our home insurance told them about the fire they spoke with the bank insurers in Granada, in the evening 5.30pm the insurance assessor was at home made his report and took photos, nice friendly chap.

This morning he e-mailed me and told us we are fully covered by the insurance.

How heart warming to hear such positivity about all the people that have helped you . Certainly not always the picture people have the impression of around here. I hope it all continues well and you can put it all behind you quickly.
