LEARNING SPANISH
Having been on the forum since almost its inception, and having done all the time and money wasting activities that are all part of this exciting journey can l please implore you to consider learning Spanish. Yes we all say. But why do we pay extortionate fees to those who are not qualified, ( Ailis excepted).
Free lessons are available in all major towns in the area fom September, the classes are small and taught by qualified Spanish teachers. And they are free!!!
If you want more info, pm me with your nearest town and I will let you know when they start, poss first week in September.

Re: LEARNING SPANISH
I do agree with Ken
We all move over to Spain, but like me, make excuses about not being able to make spanish lessons.
If you want to suceed in Spain you have to learn spanish to fully understand the day to day life happening arround you re bills heath and socialising.
Spending time with your spanish neighbours, in your local bar, or shop, but to really get the foundations in unkike me your really need to enrole in a spanish class.
Yes you get by, and rely on others and freinds, but my biggest regret is not enroling in a class, wether or not you do well or not at least you have tried,!! you will pick up more than basics and enjoy the experiance and your dream more.
I have been told though that Castillejar have stopped spanish lessons, dont know if this is correct, but a few years back course was always fully booked.?

Re: LEARNING SPANISH
I go to Ailis (mentioned in Ken's post) she is brilliant really patient and happy to keep going over things if you don't get it the first time around. I can't believe that 2 years ago I could barely manage to order drinks and food in a bar and the thought of entering a shop on my own filled me with dread, but now I can chat with my Spanish neighbours, deal with various things at the town hall and bank and have even managed to go to the doctor on my own. Yes it is hard work and yes there is plenty still to learn and somedays no matter how hard I try I just don't get what the Spanish are trying to say but what I have learnt so far has really enriched my life here. So I would say to anyone go for it x

Re: LEARNING SPANISH
The best to learn is to work with them, it's free classes and you get paid at the end of the week

Re: LEARNING SPANISH
I agree with you there Mikey. But it's not so easy getting work with them. You are one of the lucky ones.
I find when I work on my land and chat with the neighbours and also the shop keepers in the village I learn more. But more often than not I work within the english community and my spanish does suffer.
When I first moved to spain I had work as a marshall at Guadix race track. I was the only english member of staff so I had to learn.

Re: LEARNING SPANISH
I enjoy practising my Spanish when we have meals with Ramón's family....funny how my Spanish improves with a glass or two of vino tinto! x
