Just make an appointment with your doctor if your registered with one..If not your best bet is to pay private at the Policlinica Baza. But you will need to make an appointment and probably give them ID passport or residencia number..I legally work in the system here but someone outside the box may be able to help you with information over such issues

Thank you Pedro James, We have private medical but understood we can go to a farmacia locally, we would have to pay whatever I think as I want to check our cholesterol rather than something I need checking, not sure pretty new to all of this

If registered with a doctor they can do a full test for you (our does it on 2 days a week, at 8am, no food or drink prior to test and results within a few days). To keep an eye on cholesterol and blood sugar levels we have used our farmacia in Castillejar - thought all farmacias did them but not sure. Ours charge around 5 euros for each. There is a third one they do but have never asked what it is for. There is only 1 of the ladies who is allowed to do it though and they prefer you not to have eaten for at least 2 hours prior to the test. Only takes a few minutes and they write it on a card for your information. Just in case you don't know, I have been told the Spanish use a different reading than the UK for some readings. I don't know the UK ones but here for cholesterol 140 - 200 is OK

Hi,
Spanish blood sugar levels are measured quite differently from UK measurements. Typically if you are diabetic when moving from UK to Spain you should multiply the UK reading by 18, eg a reading of 8.0 would be 144.0. Doctors would like to see a "perfect" reading of 5 (90) Hope this helps.

Why worry about Farmacias/industrial estates etc etc..Register for a doctor/see your doctor/Get the Special form whatever the number it is and transfer your treatment to Spain for free..Someone like Ken on the Forum would give you the Info to do this.He is the Barrister for us all.Its a straight forward relinquish your UK health care to Spanish Health care system.
Are you a resident of Spain.. if not maybe do it asap before the Brexit thing gets under way or if your a holiday maker wait until you get back.

Hi - I wish it were that simple to relinquish health in the UK and be accepted by the Spanish but it's not that simple, we are not of retirement age yet so must provide our own private care which we have just taken out as a requirement of our new residency you cannot get residency without a certificate stating you are covered and will continue to cover yourself and not burden Spain until either you join the Spanish system (Convienio Especial) currently €60 per person per month but you can only join after 1 year as a resident or just keep paying private until we reach our pension age and reciprocal health care, our understanding is that the goal posts keep moving so who knows !

We did have the 3 month card free medical via our EHIC card but that's just a short term solution.

Anyway I contacted our health insurance and apparently were are covered for the tests, I just thought as they are just us wanting to check our cholesterol etc it would be easier to go local.
