Solar Mosquito Repeller
I have just seen this for £6.99 on ebay in the UK, down from £29.99. As I come over on 31, if anyone wants to get some delivered to my house I will bring them over...free p&p as well!

Re: Solar Mosquito Repeller
I bought two from Lidl last week @ €14.99 each. I'd say they're ok for a solar zapper but I still wouldn't be satisfied even if I had one hooked straight into the national grid
I think I'll take you up on your offer though please Nigel and have two of them please. I can paypal you the money or give to you when you get here, your choice.

Re: Solar Mosquito Repeller
Is it solar or sonar?? I invested in 2 sonar bug-repellents a few years ago. They (supposedly) emit a high-pitched whine, inaudible to the human ear but intolerable to mosquitos etc. - much like the devices used in the UK (but condemned by everyone else) to disperse groups of yoofs whose main crime is to be young and have acute hearing. They don't depend on zapping - they deter the mozzies from coming near in the first place, always a desirable objective. They were crap - did nothing at all (apart from silencing the dogs further up our barrio). But they may not be the same devices as those described by Nige.

Re: Solar Mosquito Repeller
Yes, the repellent and zapper are two completely different entities. The ones in Lidl are definitely ZAPPERS (they've got two mains powered types too) and solar powered. These ones shown by Nigel are solar powered too, but a repellent device NOT a zapper.
I also had a repellent device some years ago, it was supposed to emit the sound of the dragonfly, which is a mosquito's predator. Anyway, hoping technology has moved on in the mosquito repelling sector!

Re: Solar Mosquito Repeller
OK, I'm gonna go online and learn what sound a dragonfly emits and then stand on our terrace mimicking it all night long. But years ago I covered my garden in "Zoo Poo" in an effort to stop the neighbour's cats peeing all over my plants. The idea is that the unwelcome domestic cat sniffs this stuff (supposedly composed of lion and tiger dung), says to itself, "Hells' teeth, there's a big bugger around here" and shoves off. It didn't work, so maybe, as Twisted says, deterrent/repellent technology needs to move on.
I'll be very interested to learn if this gadget works. I'm not cynical - just curious.

Have no fear, I shall put it through its paces and report back
Incidentally, there's another product I'm hoping to trial in the next couple of weeks for which I'll also give an update on its effectiveness. (don't know what it's called, sorry).
