Advice for someone moving out here?
Scenario: Newly retired person moving out here permanently into accommodation already acquired.
What advice would you offer?
How should they go about their move?
What should they ensure they have done (and do when they get here)?
Pensions, healthcare, taxes....anything else to consider?

Re: Advice for someone moving out here?
A good start is to read as many books as someone has already stated..But and But with a capital B is dont take all the the contents of these books to heart as you will never step foot on the ferry or plane and come to Spain..We have been here for 9 years and the best advice for you is to have a couple of nice British friends to point you in the right direction for your day to day things when you settle in..Your trump card would be to spend as much time with Spanish company close to you armed with pen, paper, and good dictionary(Spanish-English)..We are British ourselves but beware some Brits will lead you up the garden path as we we,re in the early days...Most British are lovely people and no problems but be on your guard as some will fake a friendship with a view to take you for a ride...We work and pay into the Spanish system so our circumstances could be different...if you have any doubts private message us and we will try to help you at no cost at all...God willing all will go well and good luck from us here

Another thing we did and still do now is share or drop in a meal once a week to your Spanish friends..they love a winter roast and simple things like pasty, saffron cake, buns, christmas cake, mince pies and the list goes on and on...this leads to good Spanish friends and good( VECINOS) if you want that relationship...Some British decide not to go down this channel and are happy in these circumstances which is fine..which ever way you decide you are coming to a lovely part of Spain where time still tries to stand still..cold winters but great feeling for 6 months around summer time...hope your dreams come true

Thanks for all the good advice above - I will pass it on to the person it is intended for.
Keep it coming! I'm sure it will be useful to others too.

By the way, what's a saffron cake?
Clearly saffron and cake, but I've never heard of it! Is it a cornish treat?

Thinking about food again once an hour on the hour, the cake was extra yummy as well with clotted cream (CORNISH CREAM ONLY) because the grass is greener the other side of the Tamar bridge
