El Capricho - Spaying
I have seen on the forum elsewhere that Spaying sessions are organised by El Capricho for local strays. Does anyone have any information on this as to when and what it costs. I have rescued a dog but am having difficulty finding the money to have him sorted as I am only a single person on benefits. I am saving but it is taking some time. Someone has kindly offered transport, so it's just the spaying money for him. If anyone knows the best/cheapest place please let me know. Ta

This explains the selection process, terms and conditions of this years spaying campaign which was held last May.

I would like to think it will happen again next year but it will all depend on Government funding , and we all know how that all lies in the balance with the upcoming change in government and also the generosity of the local vets giving up their time. I know if it happens El Caphrico will be there again to promote it again.
I personally would shop around yourself now and remember it doesn't have to be in Baza , the main thing you will need to inform any vet is the weight of your dog , that makes so much difference to the amount of anesthetic required and that is the most expensive part of it. Without it nobody can really give you a true quote.

Re: El Capricho - Spaying
El Capricho's neutering/spaying campaign was in May 2010 - they weren't able to arrange one this year. I believe there wasn't enough interest in 2010 for it to be viable.
They are attempting to arrange something else for next year but negotiations are in very early stages. Please be aware though that your dog must be chipped and vaccinated to participate in any scheme like this. At this time there is no indication as to when this will be in 2012, if they are able to make it happen at all.
As there is no set month for a campaign by El Capricho, or even anything definite yet, I would ring Antonio and give him the weight of your dog to get a price. He speaks reasonable English. 958 704 904.
There is also an English vet in Albox who does cheap neutering. I do not have the number, or know where she is. I know a few people who do though. However, the latest I have heard is that the dog must be taken to her in Albox (she used to come out to you).

Re: El Capricho - Spaying
Hiya
As I have so many animals and I am forever back and forth to the vets I get a bit confused about what I am paying for, and exactly how much.
I believe it is about 50e for chip and the rabies vacs, plus the passport.
The other standard vaccinations are quite confusing and depend upon the preferences of each vet. Antonio prefers to vaccinate against each disease or condition separately, at 15e per vac, and I think there are about 5 of them.
Kirsten the mobile English veterinary nurse does two vacs I think, but I'm not sure what her price is. I will ask her as I have a pup to do here. However, she cannot do the microchip and rabies vacs which have to be done in a veterinary surgery.
I'll let you know what Kirsten says...

Homing a stray.
Staying with El Caprichio.
Can we get him in?
Can anybody help.A gorgeous young dog has decided that we are the family that he wants to spend the rest of his life with us.Sadly we think differently.Charley,as we have called him,is well behaved, loving and travels really well in a car.He is healthy and just wants love.
Again sadly,if we cant house him he will be getting a one way trip to the vet,I hear howls of indignation but I couldn't do what some do and drive him 50Klm then abandon,he would starve to death and as we go back to the UK for a month at a time he has to go.
Help!!

Re: El Capricho - Spaying
Sorry Ian, El Capricho are full to bursting. Last I heard there may be a free kennel at the end of January. This may have gone already though.
Personally I have 13 dogs and 4 cats and although we have the space, we have no money for any more. We live on a shoestring so that the animals that we look after have a good and healthy life. I'm happy to take him, if someone else can sponsor his food and veterinary care.

Re: El Capricho - Spaying
Oops, I am I supposed to send you those photos?
Re Mikey's question: Latest from Antonio the vet re vaccination, chipping etc.
He has changed his procedure and (sadly) the prices have gone up. I think, however, the overall price works out a little cheaper.
1st visit - 73e, which includes general vaccination (parvo, distemper, hepititis & leptospirosis), 1st rabies vac, microchip and passport.
2nd visit one month later - 38e, for vaccination booster and 2nd rabies jab.
So 111e all in to fully vaccinate, microchip and passport a dog at Antonio's.
However, if your chosen dog has already had standard vacs (like the puppies at El Capricho ), rabies, chip and passport costs are pretty much as Cavern says.

Don't forget Mikey, we have some (large breed) pups here needing homes, and Ian also has a dog looking for a home.

Re: El Capricho - Spaying
What it cost for our new puppy this year at Jabalcon vets, Baza (Francisco's):
Passport was 15 euros, each vaccination was 18 euros and he had 6 - 2 for Parvo, 2 for others and 2 for rabies. Chip was another 30 euros. Total 153 euros
Lady vet from Albox came to Baza on 4th December. Contact was made for us by someone who had her phone number. We travelled to Baza for our dog to be castrated. I believe she is willing to come if sufficient animals are needing her services as when I mentioned we also had 12 cats she said she would be willing to come up to sort them too. Unfortunately I had the last two steralised in December 2010 at a cost of 140 euros each plus antibiotics - total 296 euros. Wish I knew about her much sooner. Apparently her surgery is a couple of km south of Albox but I did not get her address as she was busy doing a couple of dogs and a cat that day. She charged me 70 euros - much cheaper than Jabalcon wanted to charge.
