Weather! Empty Weather!

For those of you who live in the area all year, or like to spend your winters there: what's the weather like in January? Not a special once-in-a-lifetime January, just your average. Any info gratefully received, ta.

Bloody awful, quite frankly - my opinion only, of course. 3 Januaries ago I was snowed in for 4 days with no electricity, thus no internet or phone & no way of charging my mobile. I'm sure plenty of others will dive in to disagree, but for me, January and February are just an endurance test - the price we pay for the rest of the glorious weather.

Hear Hear Jenny, Jan and Feb absolutely the worst months. There can be good days, but few and far between.

Discounting the really bad winter 4 years ago, when 3 foot of snow fell overnight (!!), I really don't mind January here. We always say that if the sky is blue, you can feel the warmth of the sun and can even sit outside for lunch on some days. Lovely clean, crisp air too. Of course the nights are cold but it's great to get all snuggly round the logburner. x

I would say very cold log fire nights, sun sets around 5pm and then well, u hurry in doors very quickly. I love the log fire nights, as you can really enjoy the cosy snugness of the cave along with a roaring fire and chestnuts roasted on top of your wood burner and of course some local wine.

You can get some lovely sunny days and great for walking but it can also be, clull and wet and yes it can snow.

But in a blink of an eye spring arrives.

I love winter here. I have 'sunbathed' in my jeans and fleece! I like sitting in the garden, with a book. It is akin to sitting in a freezer but with a hot oven nearby with its door open ... Lovely!
The beautiful, clear blue skies help of course.
Enjoy!

Thanks for your responses, folks. The thought of being snowed in doesn't bother me, I like snow and don't mind the cold. bounce

Santamaria - I think I will be coming round to yours this winter (sounds fab!!!) xx Wink

January is ok if it is snowy - its when it is rain, rain, rain , rain that it gets a bit depressing!!

I am already excited about the snow so I hope we get some - i want to take little Al sledging!!!

I too like the winters here, although the miserable wet weather we had at the beginning of this year was unusual and hopefully won't be repeated. Usually though it is very cold but dry and crisp with sunny blue skies and yes, you can enjoy being outside as long as you wrap up. It is a different cold to (the North East of) England as it doesn't seem to penetrate through to your bones!

I love the winters here in fact I prefer them to the summer!
