Does anyone know anywhere to buy cheap cars in the area?

If only I'd realised how expensive 2nd-hand cars were hereabouts before I left England, I'd have bought a LHD car there & driven it down. Presumably the price of LHD cars would be pegged in the UK - double bonus. I've thought about going to the car auctions in Belgium (seriously cheap) but don't have the knowledge to make an informed purchase. One thing I have noticed is that private car sales here seem to offer much better value than dealers (same in the UK), so it's worth keeping your eyes peeled for notices in shops and on this forum. The Hyundai starts 1st time and drives well and everything works as it should.The engine/gearbox and other components are in good condition with no loud bangs/noises. It has a 1.3 engine which pulls very well in every gear and would drive to anywhere in europe The car also gives good economy.Ideal for your villa or for export.

Mikey, if you do find one, and its in the westcountry, let me know and I may be able to check it out for you. It would seem that the price of left hookers in the UK has increased lately, just look at the amount of traders advertising wants for them. I did look at it myself, also buying from Germany, which is straight forward, but its the Spanish side (and costs) that kill it. Theres plenty of east european cars driving around the uk, but they dont want to part with them. They do however eventually end up in the crusher over the road to my workshop when the police have managed to get them hiab'd!

My younger daughter, Ami, is moving out here and has been looking for a LHD in the UK. She thought she'd found the ideal one - a Renault Espace which was actually Spanish registered and only an hour from her home. However, she just missed out as it was sold the day before she managed to sell her own car! Talking to people, though, it seems that it might have happened for the best as if there had been any fines not paid by previous owners, she would have copped for the lot. She's now got a lovely RHD Fiat Doblo - perfect for bringing her stuff and her doggy and she will then sell it when she gets here, hopefully in October. x
