Not a fan of the sensationalist, bigoted, etc nature of Daily Mail "journalism" but I had never been aware of this actual story....

My husband knew some of this but not how it has developed, he says it will basically be there for many generations of people.

Re: Did anyone know about this?
Yes, I thought everyone knows about it. 50 years ago (when this happened) it was a big story. The village is just outside Mojacar (or was it Vera Playa, if memory serves), but it's an unbelievable non-story now. In the passing decadesit disappeared from the news as everything got sorted out. END OF STORY.
Shame on the DM for sensationaliing this and trying to cause fear and consternation where none, literally NONE exists.
BTW, this is not the only place that has ever had a nuclear accident, there are lots more.

Re: Did anyone know about this?
I seem to remember a youtube video showing some US big knob prancing about on the beach say all was ok.
Re: Did anyone know about this?
Was new to me having never seen it mentioned before and I wasn´t alive when it happened!
From what I have seen in further reading (in more intelligent sources than the DM including a fairly recent article in La Vanguardia) there are still issues with contamination levels and the Spanish government still have areas closed off. Families have never received compensation.
And reference to the US big knob as mentioned by Dave!

Re: Did anyone know about this?
I read quite a bit about this before. Half cleaned up by the US and now just fenced off and left. I doubt the regular money given to clean it up was spent properly.
