Newbies Empty Newbies

Post by Leprechaun Tue Nov 05, 2013 1:30 pm

Hi everyone

Just a short note to introduce ourselves - We are Harry and Jane Mullan - and are tired builders - we share our lives between the New Forest (know locally as the mad Irishman and the goat lady) and Galera having bought a cave house earlier this year - love Galera and surrounding area.
Next visit due very shortly (11 days and counting down) but just wondered if anyone can tell us if the supermarkets are open in Huescar on a Saturday pm - eta from Alicante being about 3.30 pm.

Thank you -

Welcome to the forum folks.
I am pretty sure that the larger supermarkets ie Consum, Lidl, Mercadona are open. Someone will be along shortly to confirm or disagree Smile

The Galera village Coviran is closed Saturday afternoons. The Dia in Huescar is open all Day Saturday and the Spar on the way into Huescar is open too.

Thanks for the information - fairly much what we had decided but good to have it confirmed by someone with better knowledge of the area than us.
Raining here now!

Welcome to the forum from another recent newbie.

Yes, isn't the area gorgeous! Can't wait to spend more time in Spain—next visit in 14 days and counting.

Welcome & enjoy, both Dia and Coviran in Huescar are open Saturdays, not sure about the new one though. Have a good journey,

If you have a hire car and coming from Alicante there is a big Carrefour just off the Motorway in Elche which is where we stop for provisions on the way in. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

If you get stuck, there are two 24 hour mini markets in Baza

Welcome and yes I would have said Dia Huescar, open all day.

On a Sunday, in the village of Maria, is a great market and Dia in Maria and few, other shops, are open in the morning. It's a lovely drive through the natural park and on route you pass a great bar nestle in the pine forest. have fun. Very Happy

Thanks everyone for all the local knowledge - I am sure we won't now go hungry and will have the chance of getting some milk for that first cuppa on Sunday morning - only 10 days to go!

There is a small shop in Galera that is open virtually every day. Does fresh bread, ice-cream, sweets, cakes, fresh donuts etc. Very nice bread, baked fresh throughout the day, Baguette or Ciabatta type. On the main road close to the tobacconist. The La Posa also has fresh bread, cakes etc. nearly evey day too and will sell you a carton of milk if you want. They also do takeaway chicken and chips ,pizza etc.
