José Saramago

What a sad day yesterday was, José Saramago the portuguese writer who won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1998 died.

I for one have never read a single thing he has done but what i find sad is that he championed this area and in particular Castril for many many years and there are not many people that recognise it. He founded the Jose Saramago centre in Castril and funded half of the 4 million euros it took to design and build the centre, we finished renovating most of it at the beginning of the year but have not yet completed all of the work so as now i dont think it is open yet.

He married a local lady and still has a house in Castril with a few of her 10 brothers and sisters still remaining here.

Just thought i would let people know of the kind of person this man was.
