My past 2 weeks
Just got back from boosting Brittany Ferries bank account, and my observations were..............
I miss my kids and it was great to see them.
England beaches are dirty
English make crap coffee and charge too much for it.
Too many cars on English road.
England is grey
There are so many empty shops (excluding charity shops)
Chuck liked the beach, seagulls and English dogs
Eating out is financially impossible but had the most fantastic pasty at 'the Rugglestone' in Widdecombe on the moor (Uncle Tom Cobbly, lend me your grey mare etc etc)
French drivers are as bad as Spanish but they do it badly quicker.
French coffee is wrong
French roads are [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Santader in a camper on the beach is [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Santander beaches are clean
Santander people are trendy (compared to Orce)
Spanish weather can be odd.
Bloody glad to be back!
To add to this, imo if anybody suggests to drive from cherbourg or any other French ports because of ferry costs. DONT.

Hi Dave,
sounds like you had a good time and Chuck.
Going to your last comment! Can you explain why. Tolls or/and fuel costs??

Re: My past 2 weeks
I suppose it all depends how much you value your time, sanity and life.
Its a long boring drive, and the French are absolutely dreadful drivers. We plodded along towing a trailer at about 60mph and that was more than fast enough due to the conditions, but no end of drivers hurtled past us, often overtaking in hazardous situations. It was only a matter of time, when we encountered a stretch of road covered in sleet and, you can guess it, about 10 or 12 cars in a major pile up. Supprised we didn't se more really.
Obviously your also going to use extra fuel, plus wear and tare on your vehicle, but i'd rather pay a bit extra and relax on the ferry.
And they smell. (IMHO)

haha one of our favourite trips in our old camper Dave was South of France and back, stopping occasionally in the aires.. was strange with some aire's toilets though that were just a hole in the ground .
The couple of times we've driven in a car up and down back here to Spain, it's always a relief when we cross the Spanish border then go and sit and relax at a bar somewhere!

Re: My past 2 weeks
I actually enjoy the drive down from Dieppe, through Rouen, Poitiers, Bordeaux, Bayonne, Burgos and Madrid!
The ferry from Newhaven drops you in Dieppe at about 3:00am, and traffic is light until you hit Bordeaux.
Going through France, I prefer to take a detour to a Supermarket off the main road and use their facilities before stocking up with some fresh food for a picnic stop somewhere nice before joining the main road again.
Fuel (including LPG) can be as much as 25% cheaper than the Aires - but there's a noticeable change of mood as you cross the border into Spain.
Some of the Spanish Repsol garages are selling fresh bread now - much better than French bread
