Whats the maximum price you're prepared to go to please. We have a Toyota Hilux Surf, auto, air con, dif lock, diesel, roof light, opening rear window, on English plates, MOT 'til November 2O11 no known faults drives very well. Spicey

I think you mean Hilux, not Hiace Old Spice, as that would be a van. What year is it by the way? 2nd or 3rd gen? Not looking for one but can definitely recommend them, the best 4x4 by far.
How much is your friend looking to spend? I have a Cherokee 2.5i left hand drive on UK plates that could be made available. New shocks all round, tinted windows, brand new brake callipers and a few other upgrade parts I've not got round to installing. Not desperate to off load it though.

Ah TFS you spotted my deliberate mistake. I had a Hiace and still get them mixed up from time to time. It's a grey import on a N plate so makes it around 1996. 2nd or 3rd generation how would I know we only drive it not breed with it lolol. Spicey

Too funny! If it's got chrome door mirrors and chrome bumpers with that plate it'll be the last of the 2nd gen. If it's got colour coded mirrors and bumpers then it's the first of the 3rd gen. The SSRG being the top of the range SSRX Ltd next down, then SSRX, then another one below that I think, but I don't recall the model. They have the Landcruiser KZN185 3.0td engine and chassis. The 3rd gen also has the centre diff so you can drive in 4x4 mode on the tarmac, if you feel the need! They're fetching a pretty good price in the uk. The 3rd gen is a seriously good bit of kit.

HI TFS thanks for that mines a SSRX with colour coded mirrors etc. Best tow vehicle we ever had for our twin axle caravan. I've driven in UK when weathers been iffy in 4 wheel drive on tarmac using the push button control on gear shift. It don't lock the difs then. You seem to be an officianado on them so telll me summin, how do I get the timing belt light to go out on dash. It came on at 1OO,OOO km as a warning and stayed on. I had previously changed the belt early. We also found Landcruiser parts fit and easy to obtain. Cheers Spicey

Can't help with the timing belt light I'm afraid. It's possible you may need to change it again, but don't quote me on that one. If you need parts I have the web address for two specialist Co's in uk who do everything Surf. Just fitted a 2" suspension lift with upgraded springs and Ausie outback shocks, with a little help from Shiny. Pm me if you want the links. There's also a forum of Surf fanatics I can give you, it may be worth posting your question there.

Thanks TFS not gonna change belt again as I don't think there was any sensor under the cover, I felt it was controlled by the mileometer somehow. Yes love to have the forum link if you don't mind and web addresses in case we don't sell it and need any parts. Normal stuff like filters belts etc etc I get from my usual bloke in Harlow I used before coming here. Still far cheaper with freight than buying here. Spicey

OK TFS I sorted the light business now it's controlled by a switch in the speedo/tacho and reset by pushing a thin probe into a hole at the back. Got that info from an Aussie Surf owners forum. Cheers Spicey

Hi Spiceman, if adelear's friend doesn't take you up, we are going to be looking for a 4x4 I think. How many seats does it have? Is it just 2 or does it have a "crew cab"?

The Surf's are normal 5 seaters. It's the "Hilux" which is a commercial motor NOT the Hilux Surf. It's the "Surf" bit that is VERY important.

Hi, it's a 5 seater and it is a Hilux Surf it says so on the box lol. Same basically as a Landcruiser back seats fold down to give a large payload area in the back. Rear tailgate lifts up and rear window in it opens electrically. Spicey.

His car is definitely better than mine! (the one I'm selling that is, I'm keeping my own Surf). If you are looking for an all singing and dancing 4x4 that would survive a nuclear war then you need a Surf. Better than Land Rover, Range Rover etc etc And don't even get me started on those useless X3, X5 nonsense motors. I'm doing myself out of a possible sale here, but I have to be honest, you can't go wrong with one.
On a side note, if anyone has a different 4x4 that would like to contest my claim, I'm well up for ANY challenge.
