Winter Fuel payment

I wasn't expecting WFP now we live in Spain, I was under the impression ( and looking at the DWP website ) that it would not be paid.  However, on checking my UK account the other day, lo and behold, £200 WFP had appeared.  
So why does the DWP website say it's not available to Spanish expats ?
Confused... ( but £200 better off...! )

The DWP do not pay the winter fuel payment to those registered with them as living in Spain - it used to be if you were receiving the payment before you left you could continue to receive it (don't know if this is still true) but if you left the UK before receiving state pensions you didn't get it. Then several years ago, due to EU rules, they had to pay this so that if living in the EU and receiving state pensions, you could have the payment but Britain then changed their rules and stopped paying it after the 2014 winter if you didn't live in the UK. Probably because we have our state pensions paid directly to a Spanish bank and they write to us in Spain they have us registered as living here but you said you have yours paid into a UK bank so it is possible they have not registered you as living out of the UK. A friend of ours uses her son's address in the UK for mail as she thought this would be easier for her so, when she began receiving the state pension she was put on the list and receives the fuel payment even though she moved to Spain several years before she was due a state pension.

Well I started receiving State Pension last May and have been receiving WFP since 2012, both while in the UK. We moved here in August and the letter they sent to inform me they had made the WFP, which I received this Tuesday, was sent to our address here in Spain by DWP !
Lets see if they ask for it back !

it may be that when they did the research for the payment you were still registered in UK. we havnt had one for the last 2 years but have been here 5 now.

Still a little strange as they say it was paid based on info they had during the qualifying week 19th / 25th September last year. Had been here 2 months by then !
