Crickets

It's been so good, sitting on the terrace tonight listening to the crickets (or cicadas, or whatever). I can remember posting a message on the old forum last year, asking what had happened to the crickets, which was met with total derision and suggestions that maybe my hearing was going. It seems that it was only our barrio in the whole altiplano that had no crickets. While I admit that my hearing is, indeed, in decline (I'm sure I wouldn't, for instance, be able to pick up the abusive mosquito buzzers in use against yoof gangs in the UK), it was enormously reassuring to hear our first crickets a few days ago - so last year must have been a freak year just for us and our neighbours (who are all 97 and couldn't hear them anyway). Sitting out on balmy evenings listening to them chirruping - it's part of what I came to Spain for.

Strange thing is, Carole has very good hearing (ive been caught out several times), however when these crickets are making a racket, she cant hear them, and when her mother came over last yearshe was the same. they thought I was imagining it, and it was really loud! Is 'cricket deafness' hereditary?

No, but taking sides is.

Grandmother + Me + Daughter = My hubsy works away! He loves us really! Just wants to know dates when they are visiting to arrange work rota ! No idea why?
