Re: Biting blighters
Hi all !!! also the flying teeth are out those see through sand flies !! they feel like little needles sticking in you ! But yes i think be careful of any type of chemicals put on your skin or sprayed on your walls. not good i fear chemicals ingested can cause many different disease's !!

Too true.
I did get a couple of bites with the marmite/b-vit/tonic water combo, but that's a big improvement, so I'm encouraged. Much better than covering myself in deet and risking permanent nerve damage!

Re: Biting blighters
I used to get bitten to pieces until I bought a 'Bug Band'. Lots of different colours, wear on wrists or ankles and they're not expensive. We've all got one and no bites at all - Marvellous.
The only place I've seen them is on Annies stall at the local markets, she's always at Benamaurel on a Sunday and she sells rugs, throws, pottery, ethnic clothing and BUG BANDS - Look out for the little blonde lady standing in an insect free zone.

Do you know, I was going to go and see her this Sunday as I'd seen them last time I was there. Great minds :-)

Re: Biting blighters
Annie only charges 5 euros each and they do a pretty good job. On ebay the exact same one costs a minimum of 9 euros!

Must confess, I can't for the life of me understand how they can work - but anything's worth a go! Do you have to have one on each wrist and ankle & maybe more around the knees - and perhaps the neck - or looped around the ears??

Not sure if these are the ones Annie sells but there is a website with all the details. It is in the US and they want $30 to ship a $4.95 band to Europe so Annie is a much better price.

Re: Biting blighters
Last year we stayed in La Murada, near Orihuela, which has similar surroundings to Benamaurel, though not as high up. My parents stayed with me and the boys. My dad was bitten a few times, but not me, the boys or my mum. I have the bug bands (£3 on bay with free delivery if anyone wants to have some delivered to my home in Bradford for me to bring over - i make that cheaper than 5 euros) but as none of us were bitten last year I'm fairly optimistic we won't be this year...
My mum and dad live in Cyprus and he has never been bitten there...are the noseems and mozzies in Spain more vicious?

Re: Biting blighters
Nice offer thankyou, the bug bands sure do work. I have to go with Annies ones tho, she works so hard to survive out here i do not mind paying a few pence more. The mozzies and friends are out in force, we had a very wet winter i think they have multiplied this year.

Thanks for the offer medianige, but I need mine NOW! Can just about wait until Sunday - I hope Annie's well stocked!
Not sure about the tonic water, I think it's just making me gassy.
