Gobiker , they are not ticks but really horrible prickly seeds of some sort , people in the vets were saying " pinchos " that's put me off pork on a stick for a while. Infact I don't think he had any ticks or fleas , doubt they would survive the matts.

Twisted , not sure that would be a good idea , David was not happy when a chip was found , in David fashion said " that is bad " 3 times looking at his feet as if someone had just died there , I am sure you know the David move Wink I think if it had have been registered , we couldn't have done anything for him or at least they could insist on him back at a later stage . I think he was relieved it hadn't been registered.

If anybody is interested in getting their dogs groomed at this groomers it is HUELLAS PELUQUERIA CANINA , c/ Casicas,3 Baza

It is beyond Mercedona, the next road back from the big chino. I can't recommend them enough. He got all the extras plus a shiny new collar - they really are angels and know their stuff.

I am sure Dave won't mind a little plug there Wink

Poochie has had a couple of those 'Pinchos' he's now got 2 small bald spots where he has pulled them off taking the fur with them. So I can't imagine how bad it was for that poor dog.

Personally I think it's a very good idea to check the chip number. What if the dog belongs to someone who was out here for a visit and the dog got lost, just because we know about this forum it doesn't mean everyone else does.

One would have thought that finding its owner would be a good thing, especially if the dog did indeed get lost. Isn't that what a microchip is for, so a dog can be traced back to an owner? I know the dog was in a crap state, but if it's been living rough after getting lost that could explain his condition and that it's not necessarily from neglect. I for one vote to at least explore the chip number.

I would at least give it a try. I wouldn't know where to begin though. If tourists visiting the area lost him. This might be the culmination of a long journey for Barney.... Imagine if he DID have loving owners still looking for him?

I think we should try and find who the owner was or is. for a few reasons, to try and establish what has happened and where he has been. If he's been trapped somewhere, to make sure there are no more animals there. If he has been genuinely lost, to reunite him with his owner. Lastly if he has been left to suffer, the owner should be made aware of what suffering he has been through.
He's been chipped for a reason and whatever has happened to him the owner must be either hoping or dreading a call.

Many many thanks to everyone at HUELLAS PELUQUERIA CANINA they dont just deserve a bit of advertising, they deserve much, much more. Please give them a call if you want your pet pampered.

https://www.petlog.org.uk/pet-owners.aspx

This is the website of petlog who hold the largest micochip database in the UK. If you have a chip number you can check on line to see if it is registered in their database and who the supplier is I just checked my dogs and they were all there even thought their chips were done by different suppliers. They won't give any details obviously for security reasons but I'm sure they would advise on what to do next.

I will try and get the chip number and run it through those sites but could someone please give me a reason why if he was lost sometime ago before all the abuse , someone worries and love him, why they did not follow procedure and get him registered in Spain ? that could have been done even after losing him .

Personally I think we have done our part in checking if he was registered in Spain . It terrifies me that he could go back to the life he had before .

I agree with cavern
just check with the local vets and police to see if he has been reported missing. I don't see the point of doing an in depth check.
Just get him re homed with a loving family.
I would only want to find out the previous owner to name and shame.

I would like to find out the previous owner to show them what they have been responsible for, and to hear what they have to say about it.

You can't immediately just presume that he's been dumped and come from a life of neglect or worse, he may have come from a loving home and his owner could be devastated. If there is an easy option to try and find the owner it should be taken.

Just suppose for a moment that his loving owner, who paid money to have him chipped, came over here on a camping/caravaning trip, for example. One day Barney gets lost and his frantic owners can't find him anywhere. They don't know the area, they may not even know any people here, they have a timeline for returning which they can do nothing to change. Perhaps the first thing they do on their return to the UK is let their vet know he went missing. That way if he is found he would more than likely be scanned for a chip and then some effort made to inform the vet who chipped him. And therefore potentially be reunited with his much loved dog.

Granted there is the possibility that the owner is a complete tosser and dumped him, let's see if we can find out before we burn him at the stake. If it turns out that is the case, I'll be dusting off my specialist TFS kit.

Well nothing is coming up on the British registry , so it wasn't anybody from Britain on this camping trip , that couldn't take time out to report him missing here . Of course I could try Romanian, Polish , Moroccan etc etc etc

Yeah give that a go too whilst you're in such a cheery mood.

How about putting the number here so other resources can be employed.

You never know, there could be some good come of it. If it is a beloved lost pet, the owners will be only too pleased to pay the bills. If it is some rectal orofice, they can be shamed into paying his bills.

I have just emailed out the first Barney blog to his sponsors. Including Elvis, this has been to 3 people , Have I missed anybody out ? I apologise my mind has been here , there and everywhere , if you haven't received the email with photos and yet helped pay for his treatment please Pm me your email. I am sending the emails out separately as some want to stay anonymous .

Just a quick up date though he is eating like a horse and putting on the much needed weight, his eyes are clearer but it does look as if there is some damage which will need looking into, his feet are no longer deformed from living in a cage and he is doing well with the leish treatment. All in all he is one happy bunny, that is now permantley attached to my lap .

Not house trained though so I do have to run through the house carrying a Spaniel fountain to outside Very Happy
