Bullfight in Zujar?
We have a guest staying who would like to visit a bullfight. We have heard there is one in Zujar on Saturday. Does anyone know anything about it? I've looked on the Zujar website but can't find any information. Thanks. x
Re: Bullfight in Zujar?
Tell your guest they don't allow 'em any more?

Re: Bullfight in Zujar?
And pray do tell what so called skills are they? As far as I'm concerned they chase a poor animal round a circle on horseback to start of with, then stab it in the shoulders with barbed metal brightly coloured spikes, to wear it down. Then the piece de resistance a guy comes in who is unnaturally skinny and wearing something from the renaissance, goading it and finally when its thoroughly knackered stabs it between the shoulder blades and into its heart! All the time the crowd are baying for the poor animals blood. This is 21st Century Spain!

A Fair bit more to it than that I am afraid Ameliie620. No-one bays for it's blood I can assure you of that. But you need to look deeper before saying those things. You or I may not approve and they have banned it elswhere in Spain, so a good many Spaniards disapprove. At the end of the day it is ingrained into their culture and Culture takes a LONG time to change. Oh, and it makes a LOT of money and these days they need all the money they can get. Remember we once had Bear baiting in Britain.
Cor, I bet this causes some responses.

Re: Bullfight in Zujar?
HEY GUYS...Whats the difference between bull fighting, fox hunting, cock fighting or badger baiting and dog fights...the outcome is always the same..so its not only the Spanish with a twisted taste for excitment...Best if we keep our big snouts out of these things and let them all get on with it...As MIKEY has said if you want to see a good bullfight go to the bigger cities...Granada being a big venue...

Yes it was Henry the V111 in the Tudor period that liked blood sports ! called bear baiting !! I do not agree with the bull fighting, but yes takes a long time to change culture ! but everybody to their own opinion i suppose Its a cruel world towards our animals . ;(

Re: Bullfight in Zujar?
I think horse racing is cruel because they whip the horses like mad to make them run faster but i am not gonna come on here and say it should be banned or it is wrong, i just decide not to watch it and let those that do like it carry on watching it, people who dont like bull fighting should just not watch it and let those that like to see it enjoy it, it is that sort of freedom of choice to be able to watch or not watch you should be grateful for.

Re: Bullfight in Zujar?
In October last year rules where passed where the jockeys can only use the crop a certain number of times and not with excessive force, if they do they stand to lose their race winnings and face a race ban. I agree with this enforcement totally. The matter to point is what has Horse racing got to do with Bull Slaughter, oh sorry I mean Bull fighting. A horse never died after the use of the crop, only in the Grand National, which I totally disagree with, I think it is cruel. Bull fighting is not even in the same league as Horse Racing.

Re: Bullfight in Zujar?
i was just saying that horse racing is a cruel sport too but nobody is up in arms over that and it is personal choice to watch bull fighting or not, if you dont like it dont watch it and dont keep moaning about it, let people who want to see a matador do his stuff watch it in peace

Re: Bullfight in Zujar?
Obviously a very emotional subject, and I hope Sally got the answer before the thread got hijacked. But just out of interest (might be a daft question) but what happens to the bull after its 'dispatched'?
