We have moved our money out of Britain, we thing it is better safety in numbers, think of the numbers of countries in the EU and England out on its own, indecisive and never sure what to do always sitting of the fence. We are putting our money where our mouth is.

Check out the financial services compensation scheme website. They give a degree of protection to anyone who has money in a firm that is authorised by the FSA (Financial services authority) in the event that they go bust so if you have money in the UK with any of the major banks, building societies or insurance companies etc you will have a degree of protection should they go bust. The limits were raised following the Lehmans failure in the attempt to give more protection to consumers, the limit does vary depending on the type of product you have eg for deposits it is £50k investments is £85k FSA website will give a list of authorised firms but all the major banks in the UK are authorised.

So what would you do with it if you had a lump of cash in the UK?
Is it safer there than here?

Personally, I would keep it in the UK if it is already in sterling. Not sure on the european rules on compensation.

Sorry just realised got it the wrong way around in my previous post £85k for deposits from the 1st Jan 2011 the £50k is for investments.

It does say you MAY be covered so read what ya like into that. I still feel less inclined to wear stab vest when leaving an English bank than I do a Spanish one no matter how nicely they smile at me. I 'spect they say to one another on my leaving there goes another British mug punter.
