Drama Group Castillejar
Hi folks!
I have for many years been involved in Am dram in UK was a member of a Group in Orkney and also a member of our Operatic Society. I am very keen to get a group going in the area as I miss it dreadfully. I am not experienced in directing or producing plays but have a lot of acting experience. I have put a few feelers out and there seem to be a few people interested in starting something up. The aim would be to start off with something light hearted.... maybe a comedy or even a musical ( maybe a bit ambitious!). So how about having an informal meeting to gauge interest, it would be open to anyone who is interested ( not neccessarily acting ... directors, lighting, scenery, back stage folk, make up etc)
I will host the meeting then once we see what interest there is we will try to get somewhere to rehearse/meet etc on a more formal basis.
So anyone interested?
I will organise a date for the first meeting and post this on the forum in the next few days!

Perhaps if somebody in Huescar or another nearby location was also interested, you could scrounge a lift?
Re: Drama Group Castillejar
There is an existing Spanish Am Dram group in Castilléjar & I have watched several productions of The House of Bernarda Alba, given that it's an all female cast and the local (Spanish) blokes don't seem to be interested. I taught drama, alongside Eng. Lit., for several years but am a lousy actress, and can't, for family reasons, guarantee to be available for rehearsals, but could this be an opportunity for integration with the local Spanish community?

Sorry, Gill - I didn't mean an opportunity for integration for you on your lonesome. Joining the existing Spanish Am Dram group on one's own would be hugely daunting. I was thinking more along the lines of possible future liaison between the two groups. Difficult, because of the language problems, but could also be great fun. An Anglo-Spanish panto, perhaps??!!

Yeah - Cinderhola was excellent!!
In my first job teaching English (and GCSE drama, which they snuck in at the last moment, hoping I wouldn't notice, 'cos that hadn't been part of the job description), I did a subversive version of Cinderella, in which Cinderella was a spoilt brat (think Jemima Khan/Katie Price), the Ugly Sisters were frantically trying to keep up with her demands & Buttons was a guitar-playing hippy who couldn't care less about anything much. I did the intro in rhyming couplets & the script was written by the students. It was a hoot, and a great success.
Pantomime isn't uniquely British & it does occur in various Mediterranean countries, but it isn't part of the Spanish cultural heritage. I don't think city-dwelling Spanish people would have problems with men dressed as women (google "transvestism in Spain"), but that doesn't encompass panto dames or principal boys, and I'm sure it's different in Castilléjar!! As for "Oh no, he didn't" and "Oh yes he did" - who's to tell? I'd be interested to know what the Spanish equivalent is.
So who's up for being the Linda Snell of Castilléjar???

Up for Drama
Yep I would be interested, don't even mind gatecrashing the Spanish group. I play saxophone with a fifty odd strong band in Benamaurel and I'm the only non Spanish. had quite a big speaking part in that film last year , The Disciple so quite like anything creative.
