Probably the most mentioned topic on all Spanish forums. The exchange rate. Heres a site worth knowing, mentioned before some time ago, but worth a mention again:

I have a Euro Currency Card (one-off payment of £10) from FairFX which is currently at 1.12euros to the pound -which, I think, is the best rate out there, for small amounts. I top it up (online) from my UK bank account and pay of fee of 1.50euros per withdrawal from my Spanish ATM (the more you withdraw, the cheaper it becomes). If I wanted to move larger amounts, I would use HIFX or similar.....when I bought my cave 4 years ago, the rate with HIFX was 1.48 to the pound! I think, those days are gone Sad

Hard to believe now, but in March 2000 it peaked around 1.80 - Apart from a couple of small blips it has been downhill all the way!!!

Only thing is Dave, it's an Interbank 'Banker's' rate and not available to individuals:
HIFX - "All rates shown are based on today's Interbank rates. This is the rate at which banks and brokers buy and sell money to each other. Private individuals and small to medium sized businesses cannot access these rates. They are therefore provided for indicative purposes only. For a quote please call us."
Currently, the 'holiday' rate is eur1.112 with a minimum order of £350.00 and a delivery charge of £4.99 for orders under £500.

It'll be interesting to see what difference the election result will make...if any

A quick search found this:
Feta cheese, olives, olive oil, Greek herbs, telecommunications hardware and software, pottery, textiles, tobacco, fruit, vegetables, clothing, alcoholic drinks/beverages

Thats Greece by the way, not the UK lol!

1.21. This has got to be a good sign, its been steadily climbing for a while now. what do you think, will it go much higher? Time to transfer some sterling?
Surely, now it must be looking good for property sales, prices are still really low and the exchange rate is improving. Your thoughts...........?

check out XE.Com

You can sign up and use it like traders do... nice and easy... I transferred 30k over and it cost me only £40...

you need a host account and a source account...rate can be 'fixed' for a future time...which I did... I got 1.16 in April and transferred it late May...

It seems to be that the rate drops at the start of the holiday season - like now! Lets hope the trend breaks this year and it continues to climb.
