This does work Peter. We use a dark coloured plastic bottle so that the head count not too visible!

We tried this last year and it worked very well, didn't cut the bottle though, just punched holes just below the neck. The flies can get in but can't get out again. I found that clear bottles worked best as then the flies can see other flies inside and attracted by that just as much as the smell(the stinkier the better). Keep the bottles a good distance away from your sitting area then you don't get the smell and the flies are attracted away from you.

I tried jam & water in a jam jar last year, but as the wasps just flew out again after drinking the water, it was a complete failure......now I realise the trick is to have a narrow neck so they can't find their way out......DOH! Embarassed

The flies round here are house flies which are attracted to animal faeces - there are so many because of all the animals in their corrals. So, now you know what to bait your trap with!!! Vinegar and sugar are good for attracting wasps.x

Col - I can't claim any credit for getting my avatar onto the new forum - Dave did it all for me, "as if by magic". Don't normally do the ditzy female thing, but am beginning to see the advantages thereof - might cultivate it, in between cooking a gourmet supper, putting up shelves and washing up. Rolling Eyes
