Hello to you,
We have bought a cave - we are selling up and moving over on 5 Sept. Hurrah.
There's just one thing.
What is my address?
I have this much ..
El Margen, Cullar, Granada 18850
I live on a dirt track across the main road - haven't decided on a cave name yet - so should I get a PO box at the local post office?
Just wondered what everyone else does.
Thanks for your help,
Lisa

Re: Address
That’s pretty good as addresses go, not that it will do you much good we would sort of know where to find you but we personally think you will need a post box, I think you are going to have a big culture shock but stick in there.

Post box from the Officina Correos is your fist move, then you can play around and try to get things delivered to your house, there the fun begins

Re: Address
We asked HSBC bank not to send our post to our Caniles post office as it was all thrown in a box on the counter, they told us we do not send post to post boxes in the end we had to tack out a post box in Baza and changed our bank as Caniles would have knew more of our banking than we did. Caniles people are lovely people but we do like some privacy

I am more than ready for a culture shock - it's part of the reason why I am moving really - we'll be more than happy with a pick up arrangement - we'll step it up to a PO Box if things start going astray - thanks so much everyone.
I don't know what I'd do without this forum.

Hi Lisa and Dan - really pleased to hear that you're moving here permanently very soon! There are lots of our ex-guests in the area - Marion and David, who were staying here at the same time as you, will be here in the next couple of weeks and now my younger daughter is moving here, too! It may be worth asking others in El Margen where/if they get their post delivered. There may be a "wall" of postboxes somewhere nearby which you could add a box to. We have the same thing here - ours is just across the road but you may have to go a bit further. x

We have 80% coverage with Iberbander - so will prob go for a basic package and organise wifi routers ourselves - need to do a bit of spec reading first though. Hope they don't take to long to put it in (once we get generator installed that is). Don't need land line phones at the mo.
Internet is really crucial for us for loads of reasons.

will check it out - isn't it funny that it has taken us both a similar amount of time to get ourselves out there.
Really looking forward to it. Just getting a wall built so Ed doesn't end up over the edge. Need to cover over the well too. I was imagining all kinds of horrible scenarios last night.
Re: Address
Our post is mailed to our cave name, plus the name of the village (well, I believe it is technically an area of Castillejar and not a separate village) but it makes no difference as it goes into our post box, which is fixed to the back wall of the chapel in our village square and numbered by the postman according to its position on the wall and bears no relationship to what the Ayuntamiento say it is, or even our escritura which has a different number or the electricity company who use a completely different number again but the bills still find us. According to the Ayuntamiento our address translates as 34 on the left - but it doesn't say from which direction you enter the village to ensure you know which is the left side!!!

Re: Address
Strange state of affairs isn't it but I suppose you move to Germany if you want effciency not Spain. Thanks very much for your help though I am sure we'll get it sorted one way or another.
Re: Address
Old post I know, but instead of starting a new thread I thought I'd post here. Just a question regarding a post box. Is it okay to just add your box box beside the others on the wall with your surname on it or do you need permission from the Ayunto ?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Address
I would check with the Ayuntamiento. In Los Olivos our letter boxes were replaced a while ago and each one has a number. The main thing that the postperson wants to see on any letter is that number e.g. "Buzón 27" cos then he/she doesn't have to read the names and addresses on all the boxes to work out where to put a letter.

Re: Address
I would check with the Correos rather than the Ayuntamiento. There used to be a post box for our cave mounted in a concrete stand where our track meets the tarmac road, so I decided to reinstate it. I printed out a photo so the postman would know where it was and took it into the Correos.
They said, no. Could I please mount the box on the wall in the next village along with a pile of other boxes. Since then it's been fine.

Re: Address
You're right, Tim! It's because our ayuntamiento put up our new boxes snd handed out the keys that I thought it might be their responsibility. But I'm sure it's usually the Correos.
