Solar Electric systems Empty Solar Electric systems

Post by PEDRO JAMES Wed Aug 30, 2017 11:40 am

Please can anyone give us any idea of cost for a good solar electricity system.. Good meaning being able to run normal household appliances being sensible with what we use in rotation. Or is there a system where you do not have to conserve/think about what you use..We need as much information as possible with reference to wind turbine back up/generator back up etc.. The property has no access to normal electricity.Thank you

We have a good system installed by Paul Broadway. We have 8 panels, 24 x 2 volt batteries and a 3kw invertor. We use this for all our electrical appliances. We use gas for hot water and cooking. We have a fridge freezer and a small chest freezer which is always on. I use a hairdryer with no problem and washing machine although not at the same time. Obviously, you have a system built for your needs. We have a generator which we assumed we would need but it is not connected and we have never needed to use it. The system comes with a unit that allows you to monitor the amount of power you are using and also will tell you what storage you have if you continued to run at that rate. With a TV on and the fridge freezer and freezer once the batteries are full we have approx 10 days storage if there was no further power going into the batteries. I think from memory we paid about 12,000 euros but that included Paul building a frame to mount the panels on and also a secure area to keep the panels in. Hope this helps.

Hi Pedro James, did you get a solar system installed ? If so who did you use and how is it performing ? We will be moving to a cave off grid around April/May and will need a full system so any advise or help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Sueandrew, I have posted this on another of your threads, you could try Paul Broadway.  He fits lots of Solar Systems and works out what you need to suit your lifestyle.

Click the envelope under my details on the left and send me an email if you want his number.
