DVLA code for car hire

Hi all, has anyone had to use the new dvla code to hire a car since they god rid off the paper bit ? DVLA says yes but car hire website says no ,you are supposed to get code from them from 72 hours before hire,but,because of the time of year,the dear old DVLA can't cope with demand and we fly out on tuesday !

Just hired a car in the UK, having found no trouble getting a code from DVLA site. But the car hire people (Enterprise) didn't ask for the code and didn't ask for my paper license either.

Thanks for your reply,managed to get code in the end,after website telling me three times that it couldn't match my details,yet it did my wifes one first time !

So,after finally getting the codes,it turns out that the hire firm wasn't interested in the slightest ! They were more interested in trying to scam me on the insurance,even though I have my own excess cover with the AA

Only ever had to show the plastic licence. Loads of people saying that DVLA are in a right old mess lately, messing up V5's etc.

True Dave,they held on to a V5 of mine because it didn't have a street name, (which we don't), when I chased them up,3 months later,I asked why they didn't write to me and they said they couldn't ! haha ! they then tried to fine me for not SORNing the bike !
