Education

Good morning all, we are new to this forum and will hopefully moving to Benemaurel area in July( fingers crossed)! I did post this question on the introductions but thought I'd put in a diff thread here :-

We have more questions with regard to Education. Does anyone have any prior knowledge of enroling their children into a spanish state school, Olivia is 13 years old, what do we need to do and how long is the process, especially if we are looking at her to start in September? Any advice would be useful, it looks a bit of a minefield!!!

The matriculation period is usually the month of March. The schools usually have open days or times when you can visit to have a tour and speak to teachers. Best thing to do is contact the local school and see when you can go for a chat. Can you be here in March? Are you in the UK at the moment?

If so, just email the local school. You fill in a form with your details and those of the child. A bit later you get confirmation from the authorities. Not particularly onerous!

We enrolled our children in Spanish state school in September 2013. They are both in primary, so secondary education  may be different ...

We visited the school the first week in September, while the children were still on vacation but the teachers were at school. We needed to provide a copy of their medical notes (the red book from the UK), their birth certificates, and 2 photos. We filled the forms in at the school (the form asked for our NIE numbers and address) and they started the following week. It was very straight forward...thank goodness!!! Good luck!
