Largely celebrated in Catalonia strangely enough, in fact more so than in England. Happy world book day too!

I bet you can't guess the 2nd most read book in the world, behind the 1st being the bible? The clue is that it's a Spanish book... No cheating, no looking up on wiki!

What criteria Dave? Most purchased? Most published? Most passed down through families?
You've foxed me with the 'Spanish' clue!
The title could be ''How to keep an Idiot in ...... Well I'm sure you know the rest!
Happy St. George's Day.

We were told this by our friend in Orce tourist info, heres a snip taken from Wikipedia:
"It is common knowledge that xxxxxxx has sold over 500 million copies, and in fact, that number is conservative. It is often regarded as the second best selling book behind only the Bible, and at least conceded as the greatest selling work of fiction of all time, without out a close second. This book has been a best seller for 400+ years; it continues to sell quite well. The book is revered in virtually every spanish speaking country, generation to generation. That includes Spain's 40 million ppl., Mexico's 120 mil. ppl, Argentina's 35 mil., Cuba's 11 mil., Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Panama, Costa Rica, etc..., and naturally, it is similarly appreciated in Portugal and Brazil (150 mil. ppl.). As recently as 2005--the quadracentenial--the book sold 600,000 copies in 2 months"

The only 'Spanish' book I can think of, is Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes. It was first published in 1612, so it must have sold quite a few copies!

I don't think anyone knows the exact number though - like the Bible, there are just so many versions of it.
