How to Cut an Anxious Dogs Hair, for the Summer.
We have acquired a 'small long haired terrier' who does not like to be groomed. Any tips on how to succeed in getting her coat cut for the summer, without causing her too much stress.

Re: How to Cut an Anxious Dogs Hair, for the Summer.
I bet I know where she came from. Feliz's by any chance? Do you get the cats as well?

Hi Dave
U must be Psychic, (smile), no not the cats.
This is the one that has been camping outside our house since we came to live in the hamlet, saying 'I’m coming to live with you'. However often we took her back to her house, we would only to find her sitting outside our house, by the time we got back. She was even tied up but still kept escaping to our house, in the end we stopped taking her back and waited for her to be collect.
She even gave birth to five pups in our house after she persuaded us to let her in one cold and snowy winter’s night. I then had to go to Feliz’s house to tell her, I gained a few grey hairs when we reached our house and she looked in the yard for her dog and puppies and I said ‘oh no she’s in the house’ Feliz then said ‘No, No not in the house!!!’ (In Spanish of course) and I said ‘Yes in the house’ and Feliz said again raising her hands to the sky ‘Not in the house!!!’ and like a naughty school girl said ‘but in England we have dogs in the house’ She collected the pups in a basket and poor Scruffy was led off back to her house and kept looking back saying 'Do something'
Just before Feliz went to live in Orce she said to me do you want that dog and I said yes. I didn’t realise she was off to Orce to live.
So Scruffy finally got her wish and said ‘didn’t I tell you I was meant to be a house dog and live with you!.’
She is still a Campo dog at heart and goes for her daily outings. The twist in the tail is four days after she came to live with us she fetches ‘Bruce ‘her side kick’. (Her son from the litter born in our house). And said ‘he’s coming to live with you too’
Scruffy is still Scruffy but has been showered, had a de-fleaing etc etc but needs a hair cut.

Not sure its the same one, but last time we were out (about 3 weeks ago) We had one on Feliz's scruffy dogs and two of her cats (we called them Bubble and Squeek) All would make lovelly pets, but no good when you dont live there all the time. Squeek, the tri colour cat with more black than the other spent nearly all of our nine days in our cave or courtyard. It seems all they want is company. We could never work out how many cats and dogs they had, they would dissapear for months and then reappear. I think they used to take them out to their farms and swop them around. I wonder what will happen to her cave now shes in Orce? Well miss her chimney smoking away regardless of it being day, night, summer or winter!

Hi
I also have a 'scruffy' type dog who hates being clipped out. I give her some 'Bachs Rescue Remedy' half an hour before I start. Got it from the UK, but there is a natural herbal place in Baza along where all the banks are and you might be able to get something similar there.
She is just chilled out and not nearly as stressed - and neither am I!

Clare
I will give it a go.
Dave
Yep all of Feliz's animals have lovely temperaments, all credit to this lovely lady. I think the dog you saw, is Scruff’s mum.
Her son comes daily and Feliz still visits but yes they all love human company and are keen to find some.
When Scruff's Mum visited our house to see if she could hang here, Scruff gruffed as if to say 'there's no room at the inn' and Scruff's Mum duly trotted off back down the lane.

To try for residence at our place!

I thought there was going to be problems leaving last time, Carole bacame really attached to them, she even mentioned about getting them sorted at the vets and bringing them back to the UK!

Bach's rescue remedy is well worth a try - I gave it to my pets when we brought them over to Spain in the car and it worked a treat.
Previously I couldn't transport the cats for a 20 minute journey without them hyperventilating badly. The vet prescribed a couple of different tranquillisers first as a trial, but they didn't work; then we tried rescue remedy and it did.
In addition, you need to be calm and confident as they will pick up your anxieties if you're not. Enter the chilled zone mentally first
There are two shop that I know of that sell it in Baza - a herbal shop in the indoor shopping centre near the town hall, and another down a back street near the post office. I can give better directions if you need it.

I also have a place that I get herbs and so on from in the UK - www.baldwins.co.uk and you can get it from them. Delivery to Spain is very reasonable and quick.

Thanks 2 all 'Scruffy' is now a short haired terrier and amazingly she seemed to enjoy her haircut, I think she looks very attractive with her new hairstyle. We found some excellent 'shears' in our local eletrical shop in Orce.

Hi,I'm hoping to make the move to Spain about August time. I have three cats who will be coming too. Problem, two of them are quite nervous, and a flight is going to be quite an ordeal for them
How long do the effects of this remedy last, maybe I should try that instead of the chemical stuff from the vet,I think more natural/herbal remedies work better with animals for whatever reason ?
Thanks in anticipation...Poppy..Holly..n.. Buzby
