Don't forget to put your clocks forward at 02.00, daylight saving time begins. Unless you're in the US or Canada that is.

So the time has finally come! At 2.00am don't forget to put your clocks and watches 1 hour forward, or if you're heading off to Greece you'd better make it 2 hours forward.

We altered our time pieces this morning. Not sure if the dog can tell the time so didn't want him looking at the digital clock and thinking it was time for his 7.00am walk when to me it would still have been 6.00am. He gets taken for his first walk then to enable all the cats to come in for their breakfast, otherwise he would be eating all their meat.

The idea was first advocated seriously by London builder William Willett (1857-1915) in the pamphlet, "Waste of Daylight" (1907), that proposed advancing clocks 20 minutes on each of four Sundays in April, and retarding them by the same amount on four Sundays in September. As he was taking an early morning a ride through Petts Wood, near Croydon, Willett was struck by the fact that the blinds of nearby houses were closed, even though the sun was fully risen. When questioned as to why he didn't simply get up an hour earlier, Willett replied with typical British humor, "What?" In his pamphlet "The Waste of Daylight" he wrote:

I put my clocks back an hour instead, and had an extra 2 hours lie in - bliss Smile
