Has a nice little market in the square every Wednesday morning.
Best Pizzeria in the area. La Posa. (personal opinion)
A pottery, for bespoke items.
I don't live there so don't know it that well, but what I have seen I like.
Hope this helps!

We chose Baza it would seem most people come here to the Hospital, Supermarkets etc. (Lot of people come to do their shopping at the supermarkets which we find cheaper and have a choice of three) Very good Hospital, Official offices plus Sunday car boot market.

Like Rosie I don´t live there, but think it´s really nice - handy for Huescar´s shops too, and it´s an interesting village to wander round, some nice bars, and enough for visitors with the archeaology sites around. Lovely church, good museum, their ´iron-age´(or is it ´bronze-age´) fair was fun. good luck with cave purchase - hope all works out for you!

Our introduction to Cave Life was through renting in Galera. We loved it so much we bought one. Galera's FAB!
Re: Galera whats it like
If you have doubts about living in an area perhaps an option might be to negotiate a rental/with option to purchase deal with the owners of the property. Gives you the chance to 'try before you buy'. If this is not possible then go with your instinct after gathering as much info as possible. One thing for sure is life in Galera will be vastly different to life in Maidstone.

Our introduction to Cave Life was through renting in Galera two times. I made a mistake I said we have three large supermarkets in Baza there are four 99 percent of the times we do not use DIA the others sometime have as much as one Euro less on a four Euro item

Re: Galera whats it like
Well I would snap it up if it is that good a bargain, as Galera is not the cheapest villages for property. I live here and I know! Nice friendly people, easy access to Huescar, Baza, Cullar etc. Good local shops (supermarkets, butcher, fishmonger, bakery, newsagent), 2 banks, tobacconist, post office - all you really need!! There is a 'nice' feel about Galera that I don't get anywhere else, but it depends what you are looking for. If I didn't like it, I would have moved a long time ago and we have been here for almost 7 years now. As Blatantadvertising said, may be an option to rent for 6 months (we rented for 2 years before we bought) so you can get a good feel for the place. There are plenty of long term lets available. Hope this helps.

Re: Galera whats it like
When we came over to look at caves we too rented in Galera and loved it. We bought in Castillejar but it was a toss up between two caves (one in Galera and the other the one we bought in Castillejar).
I love Galera - they have a fab medieval market in the summer, a nice swimming pool and nice folk live there. There seems to be of a 'friendly community feel' there than other villages.
Galera is very central to everywhere you need to be. There is every shop there you need. It is very pretty too - it is one of the first places we take our guests to see!

It's already been said, but renting first is the best idea,we wish we had.It gives you the chance to decide on the area that you want.
Remember you can change the house you live in you can't change the area.

I live in Galera and love it! We've been here over 4 years and haven't came across anywhere else that we'd rather live. A great British community here, you can have as much or little socialising here as you want.
The Village is pretty, the locals friendly, the place is quiet (except at Fiesta time).
You have everything here that you need and more just a short distance away, a doctors surgery every day and a 24/7 Heath Centre just 5 minutes away for emergencies.
The only negatives I can think of are we haven't got a chip shop or Chinese restaurant.

I would suggest you rent first, best way to find out if you would like to live there or not, everyone have their own thoughts on Galera, good or bad.
I rented there first and didn't like it....sorry people who do live there..but that's just my thought's
