Just finished reading Chickens, Mules and Tow Old Fools, by Victoria Tweed.
A great light-hearted read, particularly if you live in the area. There are so many references in it that I immediately identified with!
Read it on the plane over last night & this morning... Nothing to read now.... Waterstones here I come! ( There are some upsides to visiting UK).
Anyone want a puppy,
HaHa

"puppies??" !!!
I think Chris Stewart's trilogy is pretty good (Driving Over Lemons, A Parrot in the Pepper Tree & have forgotten the title of the third, tho' I've read it). Probably most people have read them already. He's a good writer and an interesting bloke and (unlike Peter Mayle of A Year in Provence fame) respectful rather than patronising of the local population. I've been reading books like this for years, more recently about Morocco, Fez in particular. The format's always the same: throw off the fetters of the old, stressful life in the UK or wherever, buy a decrepit rural ruin and spend the next x years being run ragged by the vagaries of local workmen, electricity, water & sewage systems, so the only real variable is the quality of the writing and the attitude & receptivity of the writer to her or his new community.
I've read Shooting Caterpillars in Spain and wasn't bowled over (free to a good home - anyone want it?) and, Shirley or Kate, please can I join the queue for Chickens and Mules and Two Old Fools - can swap for SCiS ?

Re: Books by Expats
Gill, Jenny I will happily loan you the book. Definitely one to keep on the book case for visitors eventually though.
I am still tittering to myself about the old man from their village with a flatulence issue and the team of builders that the author employed... very enjoyable read.
Ken: re: my puppies. You can come over and look at them any time... you may go away with one under your arm though!!!!!!! Ha!Ha!
