This place makes a variety of esparto blinds etc:

I've not used them but have seen photos of their products. Their prices seem reasonable having seen first hand the amount of work that goes into making them!

Hi Miron

Yet again, thanks for posting useful info. Do you know anything about longevity, etc?

We like the idea of being able to spray them with water in the summer and benefit from the cool breezes from evaporation. We know that this works from the old palm wind towers that used to be used in Dubai!

Have been advised not to leave them up through the hot summer months in direct sunlight.

Wow!

That's a bit of a surprise as we thought that that was their main use,to offer shade during the summer!! If this is not the case what were they used for?

Could you advise a rough budget per m2 that we should be thinking of for one blind 2.0 x 1.5 and another of 2.5 x 1.5?

They are used for shade and to keep summer heat out of rooms, I guess if they are in full sun they may deteriorate over time? Ours is to keep a part of the cave which has a large window warmer in the winter at night - we will remove it once winter is over. Budget wise - no idea - a neighbour made ours and we gave him a donation, but nothing near the hours it took him! He said he'll be sticking to baskets from now on cos it took him ages! The place in Sevilla could probably advise on use, longevity and cost.
