Tried to pre-order a couple but only available in the US, through resellers. Says they will soon be available in the UK though....

Re: Tesla Powerwall
The details are a bit sketchy but I believe that it will only apply to those that have grid-tied systems that sell power back to the national grid. If you are entirely off-grid then you won't have to pay the tax.
Re: Tesla Powerwall
I didn´t quite get that meaning. At the end it says there will be no monetary benefit from selling back to the grid, but elsewhere it makes out that if you are using batteries and for instance still maintain a mains connection as redundancy, you will be taxed.
It is a really quite bizarre approach in this day and age, especially with Endesa bills being so ´all over the place´ as well as the need to increase alt energy production and use not reduce it! I hope this will be tackled as many other ideas from Madrid have been in the past such as road tax, smoking laws etc!

Re: Tesla Powerwall
It's not so bizarre. Providing a mains power supply to houses is an expensive proposition - someone has to pay for it. Even if nobody used any power from the grid - but still wanted a supply "just in case", the power company still has to put in place all the infrastructure (cables, transformers, meters, pylons) so that those people could use the supply they've contracted for.Truckchick wrote:I didn´t quite get that meaning. Re: Tesla Powerwall
I meant taxing solar is bizarre! Pretty much every other country is trying to get people to install solar to reduce carbon emissions, reliance on fossil fuels, nuclear etc and Spain wants to discourage people. Tis odd and has far too much to do with who has their fingers in the utility pie than the good of the nation and its citizens and the environment.

Re: Tesla Powerwall
MMmm. To run power to a house costs? It does, and that cost is paid when the power is connected to the house. Its a one-off capital expense. There are no reoccurring, operational, costs associated to the supply of electricity other than its (metered) usage.
These rules don't apply to houses that do not have an electricity connection. So no tax on batteries if you are not connected to the grid.
So short sighted for the government to ring fence the profits of power companies when, with more sunshine hours than anywhere else in Europe, they could become a market leader in renewables.
