Blimey! A mutant beast! Is the goo your doing, or is it swimming in in it's own secretions? I have read that some spiders grow their eight pair of legs. Could be a baby spider with attitude. Does it have eyes?
Did you try tickling it's belly - it might like that and calm down a little? Or not.

Confirmed its a camel spider a cousin of the Scorpian can jump and run up to 30mph, has a nasty bite......very agressive & likes eating Scorpians! NICE!!!!!
The goo was his and a bit of left over liquid in the glass. Thankfully now deceased!

Re: What is it?
Camel spider, cute aren't they?I come across them in Iraq,Jordan and other places in the Middle East.Just to make you all feel better they have the ability to numb the flesh of their victims and then eat it!!I've seen cases when you could see bone through the wound, that was on a human heel,a good way to get rid of hard skin, much more efficient than a pumice stone!!

Re: What is it?
Why's it only got 6 legs if it's a spider?? Or did it bite its own heels?

Re: What is it?
Only joking about eating you alive, however, they do grow big and they do bite if provoked and it is painfull.I can't think how a camel spider would get here, they normally live a lot further south of here.

Re: What is it?
now that's got me really unsettled!! I'm all for learning but on this occassion wish I'd missed the lesson.
Re: What is it?
Yup - me too. But according to the Wikipedia info, this creature's natural habitat is in desert conditions - as Ian said, way south of here. Despite our horrendously wet winter and spring, maybe that's what's happening to Andalucia. After all, mosquitos and other nasties have now staked their claim in southern England. As Big Col said, in an entirely different context, "the world's gone mad."
Although a lifelong arachnophobe, I was able to regard the extremely large and hairy spider I encountered in the kitchen tonight with positive benevolence, feeling just grateful that it wasn't a camel spider - so thankyou, HappyChic. Aversion therapy works!

Re: What is it?
About 4 years ago, before we laid the stones on the drive, I came across the corpse of what I thought then was part of scorpion and the corpse of part of a spider
I had driven over them so just thought I mangled them up a bit
I remember saying to Mum I thought they must have both been eating each other and there wasnt a full body of either of them.
Thinking back - if they had been put together they might have actually been just one camel spider!
eeeeeekkkkk
Re: What is it?
I live in the deep campo, lots of dried fields around, we are quite like a desert here! I hope i never come across another one I know one thing when the hubsi comes home his bag will be checked out Its been quite interesting researching and have found out lots of info, but good or bad i am so careful now! Came home yesturday to find the hugest creature on my doorstep, a huge beetle about 4" long with wings and a rhino horn, a Rhino beetle i have been told! never seen one of them before! Glad he was dead! I have been here a few years now and this summer is the worst for the creepy crawlies, the mossies seem bigger as do alot of other creatures....... Just hoping the Snakes and Scorpians stay away! And not impressed finding out the black widow lives here! PLEASE everyone be more cautious when out walking, moving stones and even pot plants.
