Hope to be a troglodyte soon
We started looking for a property in Almeria province and quickly realised the areas we liked most from the scenic point of view happened to be those areas that had lots of cave houses. So we switched from looking for a rural house to instead looking for a cave house.
If everything goes well by mid September we shall be owners of a cave house in the Granada Altiplano.
Hoping previous threads in the forum will help with our many questions.

Welcome and don't forget 'ask before you buy'. There's a fairly broad range of experienced cave dwellers here, don't be shy!

Welcome and I guess we are all a little biased but personally I think you have definitely made the right decision on location. There are some real bargains to be had but also just lately a lot of people staying with us to look around the area to buy. So things are looking good all round at the moment.

Good luck hunting. We've just spent a week at the coast - it was too humid for us lately... was good to get back here to the mountains and its dryer summer climate. We prefer it this way round with the coast always just 2 hours away to visit!

Re: Hope to be a troglodyte soon
We sold the main car when we moved back to London, so for this trip we had our little Toyota Yaris Verso which doesn't have air con! Coupled with doing most of the searching in the middle of the day it's been a hot and exhausting time.
We ended up making an offer on the second cave we saw (though before making the offer we saw a dozen or more plus discarded several hundreds more of Internet particulars). It's about 20 minutes south of Castril and we both fell in love with the spectacular scenery in the area. If all goes well we will be returning in early September to complete on the property.

When you do come back, don't do what I do.Tim Cullis wrote:It's about 20 minutes south of Castril and we both fell in love with the spectacular scenery in the area. If all goes well we will be returning in early September to complete on the property.
In the 3 months between making my offer & going back to the UK and coming back in December to sign the contracts I had forgotten where my new cave house was. After signing everything at the notary office, I had to get the estate agent to drive me over to it as I didn't know how to get there.
Re: Hope to be a troglodyte soon
Huescar is more to the east, ours is on the side of the Rio Castril valley. It looks terribly remote but there's a rough footpath that after 300m comes out by a one-horse hamlet with a tapas bar that also serves as a local store.Dave wrote:Great news, well done. 20 mins south of Castril?
