hola everyone
hi everyone I am new to this site. Glad I found you. We are contemplating moving to Spain and living in a cave house. We are therefore looking to rent first just to see if it suits us. Any help in our endeavour would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the Cave Living Forum Foxilady.
As Dave says, one visit to this area and you will be hooked! You will have the best of both worlds if you rent first and investigate the area at your leisure.
Good Luck with your plans.

hi guys
thank you for the warm welcome. We are coming over for a month in Feb to investigate and staying with friends in Huercal Overa, renting a car so will be able to look at some caves hopefully. Can anyone tell me are there any areas to avoid? We have never been around the Galera and surrounding areas. I know Spain is suffering badly at the moment, we were over last year for 3 months, but I have a private pension which we can live on so no worries about having to earn a living, we can have a nice modest lifestyle with my pension. And a cave not only looks interesting but also appeals as its eco friendly and bills should be lower ie heat etc and minimal upkeep etc. Anyway cheers guys and any info you have would be most welcome.

Hi Foxi, welcome, no point asking people places to avoid as we all have our own opinions, best thing is to come and look around and meet a few people, Vista the coffee car and info centre in Baza is a good place to start or the car boot on a sunday is a good place to meet people.
hope you find what you are looking for when you come.

hola
Cheers Mikey I wasn't thinking the usual Brit way, I was thinking more of political problems ie town halls etc and local practices to steer clear of, if you get my drift? But yes you're right we will make an informed decision once we visit the area in Feb.

Hello and welcome!
I´d definitely recommend that you rent first and have a really good look around. All the villages and towns hereabouts have their own character and are worth exploring. If you think it´s a cave you want, then rent a cave first for the experience - there´s lots of issues re. ventilation, which direction it faces etc that are best found out first-hand before rushing to buy!
Having said that, it´s a good time to buy - but I think that will be the case for a while yet!

Hi and welcome to the Forum Foxilady.
I am sure you'll find the right place for yourself when coming over in Feb. Good idea as already mentioned to 'rent' first and look around the different Villages to find what you want.
Enjoy your visit when you come and happy Cave hunting...

Welcome Foxilady
With such a diversity of villages and hamlets in the area, I have always thought, there is a perfect place for everyone who falls in love with the Altiplano.
No doubt it’s a buyers’ market and no shortage of cave houses to pick from. Some in need of total restoration and some already restored to the highest of standards. And for sure some cave houses, one would be best not to buy, for one reason or another.
Happy Cave Hunting.
