Hola
Hi cave and cortijo dwellers,
I found your forum whilst googling info so I thought I'd sign up and join in.
I live in Granada with my husband at present but I hope to by moving eastwards, or maybe westwards, soon. I'll know more when we find somewhere (lol)!
Saludos

Hi Barbara (I assume that's your half of "tomandbarbara) -
By "Granada" do you mean Granada city? I love it - go as often as I can. I'm curious about why you're wanting to move elsewhere.
Anyway, welcome to the forum.

Re: Hola
Hi all,
We are only renting, cities are great to learn, lots of comms etc but to live, we prefer the country. Property is really expensive and we want a garden to live the good life. Have you been to Cordoba Jenny, beats Granada as a place to visit I think.

Re: Hola
Yes, I've been to Cordoba several times, and love it, tho' I don't love it quite so much during the fiesta of the patios in May, when there are coachloads of Japanese & American tourists everywhere (I'm just selfish - I want the place to myself!). But I much prefer Granada for exploring. I think it's one of the great cities of the world, small though it is.
A few years ago I toyed with the idea of buying a small house in the Albaycin, but the prices were too high. Like you, I want outside space - couldn't bear not to have any. Sorry I was so nosey, asking why you wanted to leave Granada - it's none of my damn business!
The cave houses round here (Baza/Huescar/Castril) are great. Good to live in (stable internal temperatures) and very quirky and individual. Well worth looking at.

Re: Hola
No problem, it's good you have passion for the city. Post on a forum and it's everyones business lol! As for the Albaycin, I just wish they would realise that because you can't mess with the buildings, it doesn't mean you have to leave them to fall to pieces, but hey, that's my own little gripe.
Apparently Granada is a good place if you "move in educated circles" (brings up strange visions). I just think Cordoba looks prettier... I'm obviously shallow!

Re: Hola
I guess if you're really called Tom and Barbara then you'd need a piece of "The Good Life"! x
Re: Hola
Sally!
I know what you mean about the buildings in the Albaycin, t&b. There are some good restorations, and I've stayed in a couple of fantastic apartments in restored old houses there, but the people who can afford to do them up aren't the people who originally lived there, so it's becoming the Islington of Granada - gentrified by incomers. There's some graffiti on a wall somewhere in the Albaycin, saying, "Albaycin isn't a museum - it's our barrio," and I can see their point. I should imagine it's lack of funds as much as planning restrictions that's causing the decay, and presumably there are no public funds available for grants nowadays.
