Re: Gas check again
Yep white plastic ( see correction below ) 110 mm with rubber seal , you can get it from the ferrets it has to have a rise of 30 cm and then out of the building - new regs to replace the silver concertina ones. Also although we got the safety certificate in December saying everything was OK ( apart from the ventilation, meaning the extra near the floor vent but not actually stating it to be this ) - one of the gas bottle tubes was found to be dated 2004 - Way of of date.
I am not saying anybody should trust these guys but also don't trust your safety certificates either especially if you are renting it could lead to a problem with insurance claims.
I am glad I had them in but equally glad I told them where to go afterwards. If you can't do the work yourself then there are local plumbers that can do it a darn sight cheaper than they were quoting

PLEASE BEWARE THESE BOGUS SCAMMERS ARE STILL ABOUT: THEY HAVE RELIEVED AN ELDERLY FRIEND OF MINE OR €350. FOR WORK AND A CERTIFICATE THAT WASN´T NEEDED. IT HAS BEEN REPORTED TO THE POLICE.
Repsol say that they will NEVER make a call with either being invited or writing for an appointment.

Re: Gas check again
They were in Freila a month or so ago. They fitted 2 new special regulators with a so called 25 year lifespan and associated tubing to a couple of ex-pats at a cost of 140€ to each house hold.
They showed the paid invoice of the first to get the work of the second
I have had a look at these regulators and they are marked up at 29MBar.
I've recently had a tecnico to my boiler and was informed that the regulator should be between graded between 35 and 38MBar
When next in town I'll speak with Repsol and advise of the outcome

scammers again
Today again in Caniles 2 guys came to my house about the Gas they wanted 50 euros to check the pipes and give us a cert, my son said no money in the house, and then they wanted to take him to the bank to collect the money when he said no they wanted his bank card to swip he again said no and told them to leave .
He took the van number, then an hour later 2 different guys came in the same van and tried the same thing then they wanted 20 euros today and would come back tomorrow for the rest 30 euros, after being told again no money in the house, again told to clear off
but our poor spanish neighbours have been taken for 200 euros after they got nowhere with us.
On the side of the van is the name - COGASA, VAN REG NUM IS 3371 BNW, SILVER VAN RENAULT 1.9 DTI

Re: Gas check again
Thanks for the warning , they were here in Baza in March but nowhere near so heavy handed it seems they must be getting more desperate for cash . I wonder how long they can keep this scam up for ? it seems they are a bona fide company so it looks as if the police can do nothing , the only thing we can do is just keep warning people - so thanks again. That's of course unless anybody else has any suggestions ?
Gas man come ith

'Gas men'
Hi all
we've had our second visit in a month from dodgy gas men today
saying they need to service our gas - yeh right
after I say 'aquí todo está bien' and shut the gate, they never ever reply... just take their clipboards, get in their van with full made up gas decals on and go onto the next house on their list - they never ever go to our local Spanish neighbours
I got the camera out on the last lot but couldn't work out how to take a picture in time - doh!

I doubt if the Guardia would be interested, they do work for legit gas companies ( or at least most do ) it is just the way they go about things is diabolical

Must be the sign of the times, times must be desperate
When we were living in Los Carriones, never had anything like this, sying that our lovely neighbour was like a guard dog, always looking out for us.
Fiesty for a 4 ft old lady with a heart of gold

gas men
They are fully legitimate but use nefarious ways to get you to pay over the odds for tubing etc. which you can get from the ferreteria for a few euros. Similarly you can get an inspection certificate off your gas man for a few euros. These cowboys charge an average of 70.00 euros for the same thing. Don't let them in they are VERY persuasive. I just say it's not my house - Ha ha!. If Anyone (Repsol/Cepsa\council) wants to inspect your gas stuff they will write to you and make an appointment. Remember no-one in Spain takes money at the door! EVER.
Re: Gas check again
Cheers Gobiker - good plan!

Re: Gas check again
We have huge solar panels on the roof so I am going to say we only have solar power if they come round to us!
I am hoping that the 5 dogs barking will put them off!
You say they are legit - however there is nothing to stop them marking up their car with details of a legit company and using their name to make them seem legit?

Re: Gas check again
they were quite polite really - just never let them in

Re: Gas check again
The gas men called at our house today,(Again) and my wife was on her own and told them to go away. The guy became argumentative and eventually went to our neighbour, (Not Spanish). My wife rang me and I set of back home. She in the meantime took a photo of him and his vehicle. At this point he became really aggressive, said he was going to call the police, she had violated his rights etc etc. She went in doors and rang me again. I was in Baza and it took me and a friend 20 mins to get back. He eventually left 5 minutes before I got there. Obviously got fed up as my wouldn´t come out of the house.
She said he went off in the direction of Los Carriones. So we headed for the first place we knew of on the road where ther were Sky Dishes. Yes we were right, he was trying to get into someones house. I had a long and protracted argument. I did establish he was qualified and they are direct sales engineers. I told him I wasn´t happy with his aggressive approach. He said he was returning with the Police at 2pm as he had denounced my wife. He/they didn´t).
I visited some other Brits in the area to warn them.
Their MO to state that he had been given names by the Ayuntemiento and have to carry out an inspection and replace pipes and tubes that are out of date. They charged one person €46 for a new gas regulator yesterday.
Available in Brico Baza for about €12. Even taking into account labour costs, a bit excessive.
Tomorrow I will go to the Ayuntemiento and give the info to the Police.
He had a list, I asked him to show me the Spanish he had visited, suprise he wouldn´t.
Up to you.????????? You need a current certificate. don´t be intimidated, Get repsol or Cepsa to come out, they will charge you a fraction.
If we don´t use them, Like the Spanish they will go elsewhere. Sorry to say it again.........Trust no one!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just had someone around today, said he was from the gas company and showed us two very legal looking identity cards, but we didn´t let him in.

Re: Gas check again
definitely great to spread the word when two gas men knock on the door with clipboards and name tags
in Spanish, just... everything's fine here - smile - goodbye - close the door
this works really well!

If anybody has any pics or details of names or reg of vehicles I have managed to get someone at Cogasa Malaga to converse through email. They appear to find out if it is connected to them or not. But dont hold your breath.
