Warning if cancelling telephone contracts Empty Warning if cancelling telephone contracts

We eventually have cancelled the telephone contract we had with Arrakis, agents for BT Spain. It took three months and four sets of copies of ever increasing correspondence before they would admit to receiving anything. Now we have discovered that Telefonica (who now call themselves Moviestar) have taken money out of our bank account. On closer investigation it seems that BT Spain only rent their lines from Telefonica and when you cancel their account they just cancel their part leaving you to pay Telefonica for the line even if you don´t want it. Now we are facing a cancellation fee from Arrakis and a monthly line rental from Telefonica, naturally non of this is mentioned in their terms and conditions. More arguments and paperwork me thinks. So be warned when they say they are out to get you, they really are.

I'm just about to change my telephone contract from telefonica (who now call themselves Moviestar) to habland, I intend taking my number with me, would the same apply to me ? would telefonica still expect the month line rental on top of the cost of hablands' phone and Internet connection.
I know some of you have now got Habland, so perhaps you can let me know.

That´s what we did, but we were told by BT Spain when we tried to cancel with them that we could not take our number with us, now we know why. When you cancel make sure you really do cancel, keep all correspondence because they deny every having received it even though they have answered some of the emails. Good luck and tell your bank to stop paying them, that at least keeps the money in your account and not theirs.

Didn't take our phone number with us when we left telefonica/moviestar to go to Habland but remember someone telling me they did so hopefully they will respond on that one. We had no trouble when we cancelled telefonica. Telephoned 1004, said in English "I need to speak to someone in English" and the automated service put me through to someone. Told them I wished to cancel, they explained they needed 2 weeks notice, I said OK, they gave me a cancellation number (in case of problems). 2 weeks later the line was disconnected. I got 2 bills during the next 2 months as they charge part of their bills in advance and the rest in arrears. They got their sums exactly right. I do know that some people have had problems with telefonica but I can only speak as I find and we have never had any problems with them except for their price.
