IBI Urbana

Post by Boothjendar on Mon Aug 30, 2010 4:19 pm

Just received my IBI Urbana for this year its a whole €63 up €9 from last year !!!!!!! This tax as the majority of forum members will know is similar to rates/council tax in the UK. I'm amazed that in this economic climate and with all the doom and gloom I see on UK News channels that my little part of paradisaical Spain is relatively unaffected, I still see road building/repair programs (Benamurel to Baza road for example) going a head, the town hall is regularly round checking my new street lights and fixing bulbs as needed, new speed bumps in Castillejar (I think this is called traffic calming measures - lol), the fiestas are all still popular and well supported. OK so things can be a bit slow and often not to the highest of quality (everything is always serviceable though) --- I'm just wondering how all you trainee cave dwellers back in YUK are finding their Taxes/bills etc ?

I agree we pay alot less than in the UK, but these photos show the 'track' outside my cave which has been in this state since the New Year.......actually, work stopped on it in April and noone has been near it since! I have given these photos to the Mayor at the town hall in Galera and he looked at them and asked me what I would like him to do about it! He then gave me a form to complete which asks you to say what it is you would like to have done and what are the current risks......when I bought my cave 4 years ago, I was told that if I wanted the 'road' to be 'made up' I would have to pay for it. I refused (advised by solicitor) and this is the result. Every year and following rain, it deteriorates even further. I actually don't want street lights as I try to avoid light pollution, but a made up road would be nice. I have returned the completed form and am waiting for a response.....I'm not holding my breath.

"They"installed new (but horrible fake antique) street lights in Los Carriones 4 years ago. Loads of them, with low-consumption (but very bright) peach-coloured bulbs. I hate them, particularly the one that glares at me when I'm sitting on my terrace. Have considered painting the pane of glass facing me with matt black paint, or even shooting out the bulb, but fortunately a handy almond tree has grown to the point where it obscures the light. Plus they make it more difficult to see our amazing night skies. However, most of our neighbours are over 80 and they welcome the new lighting, as it makes things safer for them, and who am I to argue with that?
